let him be
Heb 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Heb 10:26-27 For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of
the truth, there
remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation,

2 Tim 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound
1 John 4:17-18 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the
judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear
hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
How do we find out what it means ?
" My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with
thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to
understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice
for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for
hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD,
and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth
cometh knowledge and understanding. " Prov 2:1-6
What does God's Word say ?
Prov 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools
despise wisdom and instruction.
Prov 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is
Prov 3:5-8 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
Ps 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all
they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.
Prov 14:26-27 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place
of refuge. The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

Prov 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward
mouth, do I hate.
Love is fearful of offending,
Mal 1:6 A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine
honour? and if
I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O
priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy
Fear is to respect, and reverence, because of His majesty and power
Ps 33:8-9 Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. For he
spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.
Heb 12:28-29 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may
serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire.
Ps 68:1-2 Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him. As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the
fire, so let the wicked perish at the
presence of God.
Ps 96:9 O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.
Jer 5:21-25 Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which
have ears, and hear not: Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for
the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it:
and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not
prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it? But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone. Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the
former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed
weeks of the harvest. Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have
withholden good things from
Fear is to obey.
Ps 36:1 The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.
Haggai 1:12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the
high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the
voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet,
as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear
before the LORD.
Fear is to be afraid of disobeying, God will not overlook anybodies faults.
Ps 2:11-12 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little.

Eccles 12:13-14 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep
his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every

1 Pet 1:14-17 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in
your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of
conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons
to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in
2 Cor 6:16-18 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the
living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in
them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not
the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith
the Lord Almighty. Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all
filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of
We should be affraid of missing the mark
Heb 3:17-4:1 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell
in the wilderness? And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to
come short of it.
Conclusion : Why are we called to fear God.
Isaiah 29:13-15 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with
their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed
their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught
by the precept of men: Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this
people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of
their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent
men shall be hid. Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and
their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who
Rom 1:16-23 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one
that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just
shall live by faith. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who
hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood
by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so
that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but
became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was
darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to
birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Resume :Fear of God is not fear of punishment
- fear is respect/reverence for power and majesty of God
- fear is love : fear of offending or hurting God
- fear of failing to attain the mark
- fear is to hate evil and obey God in love
When are we to glorify God ?
"Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to
the glory of God. " 1 Cor 10:31
Why should we glorify God ?
Isaiah 43:7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him
for my glory,
I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
How do we glorify God ?
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained
that we should walk in them.
Matt 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good
works, and glorify your
Father which is in heaven.
Matt 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but
1 Cor 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you,
which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit,
which are God's.
1 Pet 2:11-12 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts,
which war against the soul; Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against
you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall
behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
What good works are these to which Christ refers ?
John 15:8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
Gal 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Heb 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless
afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them
which are exercised thereby.
How can we do these good works and bear this fruit ?
Col 1:26-27 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his
saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles;
which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth
forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
2 Cor 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed
into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of
What is the glory of the Lord ?
Exodus 33:18-23 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will
proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be
gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will
shew mercy. And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me,
and live. And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand
upon a rock: And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put
thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I
pass by: And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my
face shall not be seen.
Exodus 34:5-8 And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed
the name of the LORD. And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God,
merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and
truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and
that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of
the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children,
unto the third and to the fourth generation. And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped.
We can also glorify God through worship in holiness

I shew the salvation of God.
